1875

The Beginning of a Legend

Around 1875, the renowned jewellers of Banaras, Mohanlal Ji Burman and his son Shyamlal Ji, embarked on a remarkable journey into the world of exquisite Banarasi weaves—a legacy destined to flourish across generations.

Early 1900s

The Devotion of Baijnath Das Ji

In the early 20th century, the saree business was entrusted to Baijnath Das Ji Burman, whose passion for spreading the elegance of Banaras took him far and wide. Such was his devotion that he performed pooja at the Rameshwaram Temple 21 times during his journeys to Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka), at a time when a single trip itself would take weeks.

Mid 20th Century

Kashi Prasadam

His sons, Om Prakash Ji and Sri Gopal Ji, carried this legacy forward with unwavering dedication. Across countless towns and cities, stores proudly reserved a place for their sarees, revered by many as “Kashi Prasadam.” Om Prakash Ji often shared stories of people touching his feet, believing they carried the sacred soil of Kashi.

The Fifth Generation

Today, the journey continues with the fifth generation, Kunwar Alok and Anupam, who seamlessly blend contemporary aesthetics with timeless Banarasi craftsmanship—preserving and redefining the enduring legacy of “The Sarees of Banaras.”
